Buttered or covered with chocolate, shortbread cookies in any form taste delectable. Here are some recipes that are easy and can be tried at home.
Many of us would give away to the temptation of freshly baked shortbread cookies. They are good to taste and can be easily prepared. Enlisted below are some crunchy recipes.
Basic Recipe
Ingredients:
- Butter, ½ cup (softened)
- Nutmeg, ⅛ tsp. (ground)
- Egg Yolk, 1
- All-purpose Flour, 2 cups
- Confectioners’ Sugar, ½ cup
- Salt, ½ tsp.
- Red Decorator Sugar, 2¼ oz.
- Maraschino Cherries, 10 oz. (drained)
Preparation:
First, you would need to preheat the oven to 350° F. Then, mix some butter, sugar, egg yolk, salt, and nutmeg. You will need to add some flour to this mixture, till it stiffens. Place this on a floured board and knead it very lightly. Wait till the dough begins to crack. Then, roll it out into ¼ inch thick round shapes.
You can then cut them into any desired shape. Place them on a non-greasy cookie sheet. Decorate it with some colored sugar crystals and maraschino cherries. Bake this mixture for 10 minutes or till it turns a shade of golden brown. Serve them with a hot cup of tea or cold glass of milk.
Chocolate
Ingredients:
- Butter, 8 oz.
- Powdered Sugar, ½ cup
- All-purpose Flour, 2 cups
- Vanilla Extract, ½ tsp.
- Baking Powder, ½ tsp.
- Unsweetened Chocolate, 2 oz. (melted)
Preparation:
Combine all the ingredients, use your hands to knead them well. Then, press them into lightly buttered pans. Bake the preparation at 325° F for at least 20 minutes. You can cut them into little wedges when they are warm.
Chocolate Caramel
Ingredients:
- Butter, 1½ cup (softened and divided)
- Icing Sugar, ½ cup (sifted)
- Salt, ¼ tsp.
- All-purpose Flour, 1¼ cup
- Vanilla Extract, 1 tsp.
- Sweetened Condensed Milk, 1 can
- Corn Syrup, 3 tbsp.
- Semisweet Chocolate, 3 squares (melted)
Preparation:
Preheat the oven to 350° F. Mix around 1 cup sugar, butter, and salt in a large bowl and blend till it turns fluffy. Add some flour to this and mix it well. Then, use your finger to press them evenly into a greased 9″ square pan. Bake it for at least 30 – 35 minutes, till it turns a light shade of brown.
Let this cool down. The remaining ½ cup butter needs to be melted in a 2 qt. glass measure. Mix the sweetened condensed milk along with the corn syrup in it. Heat it again on a high setting for at least 6-8 minutes. Remember to keep stirring this mixture after each and every minute. Add the vanilla extract. Spread this mixture over the warm batter. Sprinkle some chocolate on it. Refrigerate the preparation till it turns firm. Cut it into bars and cover it. Store it at room temperature.
