Salads are a popular food item for many who wish to add a healthy variety to their meals. Amongst salads, coleslaw is extremely popular in various countries. It consists mainly of shredded cabbage. It is made with a variety of seasonings and is generally served with fish and chips. It is also used in sandwiches and burgers. If you have always loved this salad then here are some easy recipes that you can prepare at home.

Basic Method

Ingredients
  • Cabbage, ½ (shredded)
  • Carrot, 1 (grated)
  • Granulated Sugar, 1 tbsp.
  • Cider Vinegar, 1 tbsp.
  • Mayonnaise, 3 tbsp.
  • Half-and-half, 2 tbsp.
  • Scallions, 2 (finely chopped)
  • Celery Seeds, 1 tsp.
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black Pepper, to taste (ground)
  • Parsley, 1 tbsp. (finely chopped)
Preparation
Mix the cabbage with carrot. Now, you need to add the celery seeds, granulated sugar, salt, and black pepper with the cabbage preparation. Toss all these ingredients well. Add a few drops of vinegar over this mixture. Toss well. This should be followed with some mayonnaise. Blend well. Then, add the half-and-half and blend well. Refrigerate the whole preparation for an hour before serving it.

With Horseradish

Ingredients
  • Mayonnaise, ½ cup
  • Creamy Salad Dressing, ¾ cup
  • Prepared Horseradish, 2 tbsp.
  • Sugar, 3½ tbsp.
  • White Vinegar, 1½ tsp.
  • Dill Weed, 1½ tsp.
  • Coleslaw Mix, 16 oz.
Preparation
Take a large bowl and mix mayonnaise along with the creamy salad dressing in it. Also add the horseradish, sugar, dill weed, and vinegar. Now, add the coleslaw to it. You would need to refrigerate this preparation for at least 3 hours. Once chilled, serve it immediately.

Frozen Salad

Ingredients
  • Cabbage, 1
  • Salt, to taste
  • Vinegar, ½ cup
  • Chilled Water, ⅓ cup
  • Sugar, ⅓ cup
  • Celery Seeds, ½ tsp.
  • Salt, ½ tsp.
  • Carrot, 1 (grated)
  • Green Pepper, ½ (grated)
  • Onion, ½ (grated)
  • Mustard Seeds, ½ tsp.
  • Lemon Pepper, ½ tsp.
Preparation
First, you would need to cut the cabbage into wedges. Then, sprinkle some salt on it and place it aside for an hour. Then add the celery and mustard seeds to cold water along with sugar, lemon pepper, and a pinch of salt. Bring this to a boil. Let this mixture cool down. Then, add the carrot and cabbage along with green pepper and onion. Blend this preparation with cold vinegar. Mix this well. Chill the salad in the refrigerator and serve it cold.

Sweet and Sour

Ingredients
  • Cabbage, 1½ lbs. (shredded)
  • Granulated Sugar, ⅔ cup
  • Carrot, 1 (shredded)
  • Salt, 1 tsp.
  • Vinegar, ⅓ cup
  • Whipped Cream, 1 cup
Preparation
Refrigerate the cabbage for a couple of hours. Then, add some sugar along with salt, vinegar, and whipped cream. Add this mixture with the cabbage and let them blend well. Chill this delicious preparation for a couple of hours. Serve it chilled.
