Curacao in the Making
The fruit lahara was developed when the Spanish explorers grafted the plants of Valencia orange on the low-nutrient soil of the Curacao island. The fruits that the plants bore were small and inedible, the peels, however, were highly aromatic and were later used in the production of Curacao.
Doesn’t the bright blue color, the orange taste, and the soothing warmth of the Curacao just take you away to a place with clear blue sky and the glistening blue ocean? Curacao is an orange-flavored liqueur made from the dried peel of the citrus fruit laraha. It is grown mostly on the island of Curacao, in the Caribbean.
The dried peels of this fruit are soaked in a mixture of alcohol and water, along with some spices, for a few days. The spices and peels are then removed; the clear, colorless liquid thus obtained is nothing but Curacao. After which, the liqueur gets its bright blue color due to the addition of a dye, Brilliant Blue.
What can be said about vodka that hasn’t been said before! This alcohol is almost omnipresent in the world of cocktails, from bloody Mary to martinis, you just can’t miss it.
The marriage of blue Curacao with vodka brings you the best of the boozy world. Here are some delicious cocktail recipes that not only look gorgeous but are a blast of flavor in your mouth. Don’t worry, they’ll just take a few minutes to whip up and are sure to make you look like a pro.
