Punch is a drink that is made by mixing different fruit juices, and sometimes alcoholic beverages like vodka, rum, etc. They say that the punch originated in India, and it was the English sailors who took this drink to their country in the 17th century.

The word 'punch' is actually coined from the Hindi word paanch, which translates to five because they Indian versions were made with five ingredients, namely: lemon, spices or tea, sugar, spirit and water.

A version of punch is the very popular ginger ale punch. Ginger ale is a ginger-flavored carbonated drink. Earlier, punch was made with golden ginger ale which gave the drink a strong flavor and dark color. These days, however, it is usually made with dry ginger ale. Adding the ale enhances the taste of any punch.
