Sipping on smoothies is a nutritious alternative to consumption of unhealthy food. It is also very easy to make one at home.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, a fact that is mostly ignored. It provides the body with energy to keep us going through the day without dipping into our energy reserves. After dinner, there is a minimum eight hour gap before our body receives any sort of nourishment. This is where healthy smoothies come in handy.
Smoothies are basically a blend of milk and yogurt with fresh fruits, or just lots of fruits or vegetables, topped with crushed ice (optional), honey, maple syrup, cereals, spices, tofu, dry fruits, or anything that takes your fancy, or is easily available in the fridge.
Easy Smoothie Recipes
For Weight Loss
Recipe 1
Ingredients:
- 1 cup, skimmed milk
- 6 fresh strawberries
- 1 cup, orange juice
- 1 tablespoon, flax seeds
- 1¼ tablespoons, whey protein powder
Blend all ingredients, except flax seeds and whey powder. Pour smoothie into a tall glass. Then, spoon in the flax and whey, blend it well. Sip on.
Recipe 2
Ingredients:
- 4 teaspoons, uncooked oatmeal
- ¾ cup, apple juice
- 1 frozen banana
- ¼ cup, frozen peaches
- ¼ teaspoon, stevia
Blend all ingredients in a blender until its smooth and creamy. Serve with some crushed ice.
For Kids
Recipe 1
Ingredients:
- 1 cup, fresh yogurt
- ½ cup, banana (cut into small pieces)
- 8 frozen strawberries
- 1 cup, grapefruit or orange juice
- 1 tablespoon, raisins
- 1 tablespoon, crushed ice
Blend all the ingredients in a blender, until thick and smooth. Pour it in a glass and garnish with chopped raisins.

Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons, chocolate syrup
- 1 tablespoon, chocolate chips
- 4 scoops, chocolate ice cream
- 1 cup, fresh milk
In a blender, combine all ingredients, until smooth and chips have all blended well. Pour in a glass and garnish with some chocolate chips.
For Energy
Recipe 1
Ingredients:
- 1 cup, strawberry flavored milk
- 5 frozen strawberries
- 6 frozen raspberries
- 2 celery stalks
- ¼ cup, apple juice
Chop the celery stalks into small pieces and blend with all the ingredients in a blender. Serve topped with ice cubes.
Recipe 2
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons, all-bran cereal
- ¼ teaspoon, cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon, nutmeg
- 1 apple slice
- ¼ teaspoon, vanilla essence
- 1½ cup, skim milk
Reserve two slices of the apple and pulse all the ingredients in a blender to form a smooth beverage. Pour the drink into tall glasses and garnish with the two apple slices.
Protein Smoothies
Recipe 1
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon, whey protein powder
- ½ cup, frozen cranberries
- 1 kiwi fruit (peeled)
- ½ apple (chopped)
- ¾ cup, skimmed yogurt
- ½ cup, soy milk
- ½ banana (chopped)
- 1 cup, orange juice
- 2 tablespoons, unsalted peanut butter
- ¼ teaspoon, flaxseed
Blend all fruits with orange juice, until smooth. Add the remaining ingredients and blend once more. Pour into glasses and serve chilled.
