Beef or pork bottom round roast makes a tasty and filling meal. This main course dish can be made for lunch or dinner. It is an authentic American dish, which is also nutritious as it is rich in protein. Secondly, as it is inexpensive, it can suit your budget.
Approximate Time Required
As aforementioned, the cooking time of the round roast depends on the portion and type of the meat. Secondly, as the bottom roast is firmer than the upper roast, it takes a long time to cook. It is always cooked with some liquid like beef bouillon, water, wine, etc. It is usually cooked in a crock-pot or a slow cooker for more than 4-5 hours. It takes 1 and 1/2-2 hrs to cook 2-4 lbs of bottom roast at 325°F in an oven. It takes 2-2 1/2 hrs to cook 4-8 lbs of bottom roast in a crock-pot at the same temperature.
#1: Crock-pot
  • 4 pounds of bottom round roast
  • 6 sliced onions
  • 1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon of white vinegar
  • 1-2 bay leaves
  • 1 cup of water
  • Salt and pepper to taste
Method of Preparation

Firstly, you need to clean the roast and season it with salt and pepper. Next, place sliced onions at the bottom of the crock-pot and place seasoned roast on the top. Add white vinegar and bay leaves to the pot and cook at high heat until it simmers. Then turn the heat to low and simmer for 3-4 hours. After the prescribed time, take the roast out of the pot and place on a plate. Add the flour in water and pour it into the pot. Mix the roast drippings and a little water to form a gravy. Serve the roast with gravy.
#2: Slow Cooker
  • 3-4 lbs of bottom round beef roast
  • 1 lb of onion
  • 2 lbs of potatoes
  • 1 lb carrot
  • ½ cup of Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ cup of barbecue sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of freshly ground pepper
Method of Preparation

Clean and season the bottom roast with salt and pepper. Place the seasoned roast in a slow cooker. Slice and add onion, potatoes, and carrot to the cooker. Pour the Worcestershire and barbecue sauce on top of the roast. Cook on low settings for 7-8 hours. Take the roast out after the prescribed time. Serve hot with gravy made from the drippings of the roast.
