Honey Baked Ham Heating Instructions

A honey baked ham is best served hot. However, using the wrong procedure to heat the ham can steal away its rich flavor considerably. This article provides honey baked ham heating instructions, in the microwave and the oven and some delicious recipes.

Ham On A Plate
Honey baked ham

Honey baked ham is one of the most favored holiday foods. It is very popular during occasions like Christmas and Easter and serves as a great treat for one and all. The best part is that it comes already cooked and seasoned! All you need to do is reheat it, and it is ready to hit the table! The meat is tender ham that is gently smoked and covered with the spicy and sweet coating. The instructions that come along, suggest that the ham should be simply served at room temperature.

Heating without proper instructions can lead into culinary disasters. The ham comes already cooked and I’m sure you don’t want to overcook it and make it dry and tasteless! So follow these simple directions and enjoy the delicious treat!

Using an Oven

If you want to warm up the whole ham, remember is to cover it with a foil so that the glazing or coating does not dry out. Keep the ham in its original wrapper or remove it and replace with another foil. Place the ham covered with the foil, in the oven. Maintain the oven temperature at about 250 to 275 degrees for about 30 minutes. Since the meat is already cooked, 250 degrees is enough to heat it. If you are not planning to serve the entire ham, just slice off the pieces you wish to serve.

Using a Microwave

Heating the whole ham in a microwave is not advised at it can cause burning or drying up of the glazing. However, you can heat slices of the meat in a microwave. Remove the ham from the refrigerator 30 minutes prior to serving. Let it attain room temperature. Place the slices in a microwave safe dish and heat on low for just about a minute or so. Serve immediately! Repeated heating should be avoided as it dries out the meat completely making it tasteless.

Honey Baked Ham Recipe

For all those who are on a strict budget, but still want to enjoy the juicy, tender ham, here’s an easy recipe for making honey baked ham at home which offers the same taste as the expensive ones.

Ingredients:
Ham, 1 (pre-baked)
Honey, ¼ cup
Butter, ½ cup
Brown sugar, ½ cup
Pineapple juice (can be substituted by orange juice)
Cloves, ¼ teaspoon (ground)

Directions:
Take a pan that is large enough to hold the ham and the cooking juices. Line it properly with aluminum foil.
In a double boiler, take butter, brown sugar, honey, juice, and cloves and heat on low until butter melts and the sauce caramelizes. Mix the sauce evenly.
Place the ham in the pan lined with foil.
Brush it with the warm sauce. Place it in the oven and set the oven temperature to 325 degrees.
Bake it for an hour or so, brushing it with the glaze after every 15 minutes. Once it’s done, let it rest for 10 minutes, slice and serve!

Now that you know the correct method of heating honey baked ham, get ready to impress your family and friends by this sweet and spicy treat!
