White Tequila Vs. Gold Tequila

Tequila is a paramour among those who love to sit back and take in an all together different experience, opting for something more up there when it comes to finer choices. Find out how this spirit supersedes others…

We’re all familiar with the infamous round of tequila shots which are commonly taken using white tequila, a bit of salt as an aftershock for the senses and a slice of lemon to add in some verve; leaving you salivating. While most of the sophisticated male species opt for scotch on the rocks as their much preferred drink, women are found usually sipping on vodka or wine. So where does tequila fit in? Because it is produced using the finest of ingredients, it is priced a little higher than most alcohol concoctions. It is a classy drink all by itself, while others don’t stand a chance in competing. Lovingly brought up and distilled to perfection, tequila is a class apart from the rest and has proved time and again that it is the master of all drinks.

The first producer of tequila for those who aren’t familiar with its past, was Jose Antonio de Cuervo, after he took from the King of Spain, land that later then became the independent Republic of Mexico. Later in the year 1795, Jose María Guadalupe de Cuervo, made his first Vino Mezcal de Tequila de Jose Cuervo, after the King of Spain gave him the green the light to commercially produce and distribute tequila.

Tequila is made from the blue agave plant, where only one of its kind can produce tequila called, Azula Tequilana Weber. There is a different kind of drink that is made from other kinds of agave like espadin, mano and so on, and is nothing like real made tequila which as you now know can only be made using the blue agave plant. This drink is known as mezcal where some of these bottles come with a worm submerged in it, laying at the bottom, motionless. It is said to be a marketing stunt to get people to buy these, when in fact they aren’t real at all. Tequila on the other hand is a completely different drink, and shouldn’t be confused with mezcal.

Difference Between White and Gold Tequila

Let’s now get down to the subject of white tequila vs gold tequila, where we distinguish between these two completely different kinds of tequila, given the fact that they’ve been distilled differently. When it comes to white tequila, it is initially during the process of distillation – as clear as crystal. Once it starts to age, it begins to lose its transparency, making it take on a completely distinct quality in terms of taste.

Different colors indicate unlikely tones of flavor, all labeled under various names. Gold tequila in particular, gets its deep, amber color after caramel has been infused into its content. White tequila is also called blanco or silver tequila. It is stored in either ordinary oak caskets that aren’t woody in nature, or in stainless steel drums for it to age.

It takes about 60 days for white tequila to come of age, while gold takes longer in order to acquire its deep colored constituents. They both differ in taste where white tequila takes on a sharper, more acrid taste while gold is more soothing when it goes down. Usually when people take shots of tequila, it consists of its white self and not in gold which is odd, considering how gentle gold is when taken compared to its harsh counterpart (price then again, differs). It is a known fact however that the best margaritas are made using tequila, in its white form.

In the above discussion of white tequila vs gold tequila I hope that you are now clear on what makes these two individual types of tequila contrastive in their own way, by the attention they’re given during the aging process. Be sure to use white tequila if you’re a margarita drinker, and use its dark twin wherever the need for this kind seems more befitting. Let’s take a quick peek into a recipe I call, ‘Tequila Sunset’. It’s a simple concoction of easy to attain ingredients, that are sure to soothe your senses post sunset. Let’s take a look at how to make the perfect Saturday night drink…

→ One shot of peach schnapps
→ 3 tablespoons of low-fat cream
→ 1 fresh peach (without its pit)
→ 1 cocktail shaker
