How to Make a Grateful Dead Drink

A Grateful Dead drink has a beautiful violet hue and a smooth taste. It contains gin, vodka, rum, triple sec, and tequila, besides other flavor-adding ingredients. Read about the Grateful Dead drink recipes in this Tastessence article.

The Grateful Dead drink is a mixture of 4-5 types of liquors. Hence, 1 drink is considered equivalent to 2-3 drinks.

Long Island iced tea is made by mixing tequila, vodka, rum, and gin. A Grateful Dead drink is the sweeter variant of Long Island iced tea.

While Long Island iced tea has a small quantity of cola, a Grateful Dead drink contains raspberry liquor. All the spirits used in this recipe are clear, and hence, the mixture of these spirits makes it a clear drink.

On addition of raspberry cordial, this drinks gets a purplish hue. Raspberry liqueur gives this drink a fruity flavor. Sweet and sour mix is added to give it a tangy taste. Here are two ways to make this drink.

Grateful Dead Drink With Tequila

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients
2 oz. Sweet and sour mix
1 oz. Tequila
1 oz. Gin
1 oz. Rum
1 oz. Triple sec
1 oz. Vodka
½ oz. Raspberry cordial

Cook Time: 0 minutes

Procedure
1. Add ice cubes to a small-sized pitcher.
2. Add rum, tequila, gin, triple sec, and vodka, to the ice.
3. Pour the sweet and sour mix into this.
4. Mix well and pour this drink into cocktail glasses.
5. Pour the raspberry cordial into the cocktail glasses.
6. Garnish the cocktail glass. Serve.

Grateful Dead Drink Without Tequila

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients
2 oz. Sweet and sour mix
1 oz. Gin
1 oz. Vodka
1 oz. Rum
1 oz. Triple sec
½ oz. Raspberry cordial
¼ oz. Sprite/7UP


Cook Time:
0 minutes

Procedure
1. Add ice cubes to a small-sized pitcher.
2. Pour all the white liquors over the ice.
3. Add the sweet and sour mix for a tart flavor.
4. Pour this drink mixture into cocktail glasses.
5. Splash raspberry cordial and sprite or 7UP into these glasses.
6. Mix well using a swizzle stick. Decorate with cherry, paper umbrella, etc., and serve.

Carbohydrates 6-8% per serving
Each serving consists of 5 ounce containing equal parts of each liquor.

Tips:

  1. Cocktails can be served in Collins glasses. However, they look best when served in highball/hurricane cocktail glasses.
  2. While making more than one serving of cocktail, mix the liquors together in a pitcher. For a single serving, the cocktail can be made directly in the cocktail glass.
  3. This drink tastes great with silver/gold tequila and a light variety of rum.
  4. In this recipe, triple sec can be replaced by equal quantity of blue curaçao. This gives a tie-dye color to the drink.
