The drink of choice for every occasion may change from person to person, since it depends on taste and personal choice. But one drink, which is a staple for most bars, parties, clubs and get-togethers, is a shot. Served in a 20-60 ml tiny glass, a shot is meant to be drunk straight up in one gulp, to give a powerful alcohol rush to your head. One shot is usually all it takes to get the party and the night started.

People are highly inventive when it comes to mixing drinks and shots are no exception. You can have a boring, neat shot of some alcohol like whiskey, rum, vodka or tequila or you can go all out, with radical shots like jello shots in vodka or rum, red bull shots and one of the tastiest yet unique shots of them all, is the chocolate cake shot. The chocolate cake shot is a classic example of inventive ingredients, the amazing way chemicals mix and how drinks can end up surprising the woo-haa out of you. If you want a definite crowd pleaser and a drink that will astound your friends, read on to learn how to make chocolate cake shots as well as some other shot variants that imitate various cakes in taste.

Key Ingredients For Chocolate Cake Shots

Contrary to what this shot’s moniker suggests, there is no cake or crumbly layer or cream involved. In fact chocolate is not even a part of this shot’s ingredients list. The whole twist in this drink is its taste. The ingredients combine in such a way, to give one the taste of actually drinking a liquidy cakey mixture. You may taste that rich cake flavor during or after the shot. This shot is also considered an interactive shot as the slice of lemon is the extra step, that adds to its flavor rather than just downing the shot.

You will need:

  • Hazelnut Liqueur – A liqueur made from hazelnut, alcohol and water is responsible for the cakey taste in this novel shot. Though any brand of hazelnut liqueur can be used, the most popular and seemingly best choice is Frangelico.
  • Vodka – Plain or citron flavored vodka should be used. For a twist, you can even try vanilla flavored vodka.
  • Lemon – a small lemon wedge or slice is needed.
  • Sugar – brown or white sugar can be used to coat the lemon wedge. This helps in enhancing the flavor of the liqueur.
