Boil Rutabaga

Before cooking, you have to clean and peel the vegetable. Try to get small ones because they are found to be the sweetest. Wash them in cold water, before peeling (use a paring knife for this purpose). You have to cut the ends, before halving the vegetable. Once done, cut the vegetable into cubes or any other shape of your choice. Take a saucepan and put the rutabaga cubes into it, along with half a teaspoon of salt. Add enough water to cover the pieces. As the water starts boiling, cover and cook the vegetable till it gets tender. It will take roughly 15 to 20 minutes for the rutabaga pieces to get cooked. The next step is to drain the pieces. Sprinkle salt and pepper, and top with some butter. Otherwise use the cooked rutabaga for preparing other recipes.

In case of baking, peel and cut the vegetable into two or three pieces, and boil them. Once done, drain the pieces and mash with a tablespoon of sugar, a pinch or two of white pepper, ½ cup of milk, one teaspoon of salt, and a tablespoon of flour.
