16 Best and Most Classic Cocktails You Must Try

For all the newbie drinkers, those who have just reached the age of 21, and all the cocktail lovers, Tastessence brings a list of the most popular cocktails that you must try and enjoy.

“Wine has been a part of civilized life for some seven thousand years. It is the only beverage that feeds the body, soul and spirit of man and at the same time stimulates the mind.”
― Robert Mondavi

Cocktails, these widely known and esteemed drinks are famed since its origination. The reason one should opt for a cocktail rather than any other pure hard drink is that it will keep you sober and in your senses, at a party or in a gathering. Hard drinks will get you fuddled, and it really doesn’t make sense to be really high and mentally absent in a get-together. This is when cocktails fit in the bill, to be the perfect party drinks. They will not only leave you feeling a tad bit high, but also will provide a fruity, creamy, tangy, and lemony flavor (according to the recipe).

Tastessence presents to you the best and most classic list of cocktails. You can make these at home by following the recipe procedure. Be it gin-, rum-, or vodka-based cocktail, you name it, and we have it!

Classic Cocktail List

Seelbach Cocktail

Ingredients:
Champagne, 3 oz.
Angostura Bitters, 2 oz.
Peychaud’s Bitters, 2 oz.
Bourbon, 1 oz.
Cointreau, 0.7 oz.
Orange zest, 1 tsp.

Instructions:
Except champagne, put all the elements into a cocktail bullet shaker and shake well. Cocktail bullet shakers have a strainer and also have non-drip filters. They will help you keep the place clean and the drink perfect. Then pour this mix into a hurricane glass. Fill in the glass with champagne and garnish with the orange zest. You can also use any fruit of your choice to garnish the savory.

Gimlet

Ingredients:
Crushed ice, 1 cup
Gin, 1.5 oz.
Lime juice, 1 oz.
Lime, 1 slice

Instructions:
Take the mentioned quantities of gin and lime juice in a cocktail shaker. Add crushed ice to the liquid. Shake the shaker thoroughly and strain the cocktail into a lowball glass. Garnish the drink with a lime slice or some lime zest.

Wild Turkey Rare Manhattan

Ingredients:
Crushed ice, 3 cups
Wild Turkey, 3 oz.
Sweet Vermouth, 3 oz.
Sherry, 1 oz.
Angostura Bitters, 2 dashes
Lemon, 1 slice

Instructions:
In a shaker cum strainer, add crushed ice and the liquids. Shake well and pour the cocktail into a highball glass or a beer glass. If you cannot have Wild Turkey, you can opt for any other brand of whiskey. Do not add excessive quantity of the bitters, otherwise you will end up having an atrocious bitter mouth after the drink. Garnish the cocktail with a lemon slice. Enjoy the drink.

While choosing a shaker for the cocktail, always go for one that has a rubber gasket inside (prevents the drink from dripping while shaking), or simply opt for a stylish bullet cocktail shaker.

Gin and Tonic

Ingredients:
Tonic Water, 3 oz.
London Dry Gin, 2 oz.
Lime, 1 slice

Instructions:
In a martini glass or a lowball glass, pour the London Dry Gin and tonic water. Stir with a bar spoon. But if you want to add ice to your cocktail, make sure you do it before adding the liquids to the glass. Then, in a separate container, mix the fluids and add it on the ice. Your sparkling clear cocktail is ready. Just garnish with a slice of lime or lemon, according to your preference. Let the fruit slice float through the drink for that tangy flavor.

The Last Word

Ingredients:
Crushed ice, 2 cups
Gin, 3 oz.
Green Chartreuse, 3 oz.
Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur, 3 oz.
Lime juice, 3 tbsp.
Lime zest 1 tsp.
Mint leaves, 5
Lime, 1 slice

Instructions:
Shake the liquids and crushed ice in a trudeau cosmo cocktail shaker. Pour it into a brandy snifter or a hurricane glass. While dressing the drink, ask your self if you are in a mood for something minty or tangy. If minty, then add mint leaves to the drink or some lime zest for a little tang. Cover the rim of the glass with some powdered sugar or salt. Then hang a slice of your favorite fruit on the rim. Sip the liquid in glory and feast all your senses.

Moscow Mule

Ingredients:
Ginger Beer, 4 oz.
Vodka, 2 oz.
Lime, 1 slice

Instructions:
In a high ball glass pour the exact quantities of liquor and swirl the cocktail with a bar spoon. Usually people do not prefer ice in Moscow Mule, but you can add it if you want the cocktail to chill your palate. Just remember that excess of ice can dilute the drink and spoil the flavor.

Another important tip for people who do not like ginger beer, can rather go for banana beer, draught beer, corn beer or spruce beer. But do not mix two different beers. Go for a single variety for better taste. Finally, dangle a slice of lime on the rim of the glass and enjoy.

Dark ‘n’ Stormy

Ingredients:
Crushed ice, 1 cup
Ginger beer, 4 oz.
Black rum, 2 oz.

Instructions:
Mix all the elements in a brandy snifter or a hurricane glass. Stir with a bar spoon and enjoy. You can garnish the drink with mint leaves or a lime wedge, according to your preference. To make the cocktail look aesthetically appealing, you can use small colorful umbrellas and colorful straws.

You can also experiment with the drink by adding apricot brandy or sweet vermouth or Campari. It will make the cocktail look bright red and add a fresh new flavor. Do not add more than 2 oz of these liquids to the cocktail.

With all these ingredients, the drink doesn’t require any fruits or mint leaves for the additional tang or mint, but we suggest you to keep experimenting. Who knows, you might end up having a true celestial beauty.

Ramos Gin Fizz

Ingredients:
Egg white, 1
Gin, 3 oz.
Soda, 2 oz.
Cream, 1 tbsp.
Simple syrup, 1 tbsp.
Lemon juice, 1 tsp.
Lime juice, 1 tsp.
Lemon, 1 slice

Instructions:
In a cocktail shaker, blend gin, cream, simple syrup, egg white, lemon, and lime juice. Then pour this mix in a glass filled with soda. Garnish with a lemon slice.

7UP or Sprite, 4 oz.
Pimm’s No. 1, 2 oz.

Dry Vermouth, 2 oz.
Maraschino Liqueur, 2 oz.
Lemon Juice, 1 tbsp.
Lemon zest, ½ tsp.

Gin, 1 oz.
Campari, 1 oz.

Absinthe, 1 oz.
Simple syrup, 1 tbsp.
Peychaud’s Bitters, 1 tbsp.

Kamikaze

Ingredients:
Vodka, 1 oz.
Triple Sec, 1 oz.
Lemon Juice, 1 tsp.
Lime, 1 slice

Instructions:
Shake the elements in a cocktail shaker and serve in a champagne saucer or a cocktail glass. Rim the glass with powdered sugar or salt. If you are using salt, go for coarse sea salt. But if you prefer sugar, use plain white-powdered sugar or even ground brown sugar goes well with the recipe.

If Triple Sec is not available at the nearby stores, you can opt for any clear and strong orange-flavored liquor.

Black Russian

Ingredients:
Vodka, 3 tbsp.
Coffee Liqueur, 3 tbsp.

Instructions:
Blend the liquids in a lowball glass and stir well with a bar spoon. You can add your favorite fruit zest or fruit wedge for garnish.

If you do not want ice, you can place the liqueur in the refrigerator for about 5 minutes at a very low temperature. Do not add ice additionally, as that can dilute your drink and give you a funny taste. You can also try experimenting with stainless steel whiskey rocks to keep your drink cool, without the fear of weakening the drink.
