Swedish Meatballs With Gravy That is Sure to Entice You

You will be surprised to know that meatballs were originally prepared to utilize the leftover meat in the kitchen. That is why we have all kinds of meatball recipes today which use beef, chicken, vegetables, pork, and any other thing that you can get your hands on in the kitchen.

Swedish meatball recipes were brought by the Scandinavians to America, and now have become an inseparable part of the American food menu, even though the recipes have undergone a lot of changes to suit the American tastes. Here are some recipes for you, which have both Swedish and American flavor to them.

Recipe # 1

Ingredients
  • 4 lb beef (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon, garlic powder
  • 1 lb pork sausage
  • 4 tablespoons, Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 onions (minced)
  • 2 cups, bread crumbs
  • 4 cups, corn soup
  • 1 packet, brown gravy
  • 8 Cups, sour Cream
Procedure for the Meatballs

Take a large bowl and mix the sausages, beef, garlic powder, chopped onions, Worcestershire sauce, and cracker crumbs in it. Knead the mixture properly. Now, take a small quantity of this mixture and make small balls from it. Separately, take a pan and heat oil in it. Put the balls into the oil and fry until, golden brown.

Procedure for the Gravy

Take a pan and put some oil in it. Now, pour the corn soup, brown gravy, and sour cream into the pan. Let the mixture come to a boil.

After the gravy has been prepared, take a baking dish and place the meatballs prepared earlier on it. Pour the gravy on top of the meatballs and keep it in the oven for baking at 350 ºF.

Recipe # 2

Ingredients
  • 4 lb meat (chopped)
  • 2 cups, milk
  • 2 cups, bread crumbs
  • 2 onions (minced)
  • 4 eggs
  • Melted butter
  • Nutmeg
  • Salt
  • Rind of one lemon (grated)
  • 4 cups, meat stock
  • 2 cups, sour milk
  • Parsley
  • Six tablespoons flour
Procedure for the Meatballs

Take a bowl and mix bread crumbs, milk, and meat together. Take a pan and put the butter in it. Sauté the onions in the oil, and add them to the mixture prepared earlier. Beat the eggs and pour them over the mixture too. Knead the mixture properly with your hands. After that, form small, round shapes of the mixture. Take a pan, pour melted butter in it and fry the balls in it.

Procedure for the Gravy

Take a large bowl and mix the meat stock and the flour in it. Now, pour this mixture in a pan and heat it. Add the grated lemon rind to the mixture.

Put the meatballs into the gravy and let them simmer for about an hour on low heat. After one hour, remove the meatballs and place them in a dish. Separately, pour the sour cream in a pan and heat it slightly. Pour the sour cream over the meatballs, add parsley and salt to taste.
