Of all the various cookies, a sugar cookie is a sweet biscuit made from flour, eggs, butter, baking powder, and yes of course sugar (that is why they are called sugar cookies!). Using a cookie cutter, they can be cut out into many shapes, and decorated with a variety of sprinkles and frosting. Just check out some of the easy sugar cookie recipes listed below that will help you in making tasty cookies.

  • Nutmeg powder, ¼ tsp
  • Baking soda, 1 tsp

In a large bowl, whisk the egg, sugar, butter, and Canola oil and stir in the almond flavoring. In a smaller bowl, dissolve baking soda in milk and add to the sugar-butter mixture. Shift flour, salt, and nutmeg powder together, stir into creamed mixture. Drop a tablespoon onto a greased cookie sheet, flatten with wet fork or wet fingers and sprinkle with toppings. Chocolate Sugar Cookies
Ingredients for Icing
  • Confectioners' sugar, 4 cups
  • Meringue powder, 3 tablespoons
  • Warm water, ½ cup
  • Almond extract, ½ teaspoon
Icing: Beat on low speed meringue powder with confectioners' sugar, until the mix is smooth. Add warm water and beat, until very glossy and stiff and then stir in the almond extract. Use the icing immediately, else it will become hard.
Ingredients for Cookies
  • All-purpose flour, 2¾ cup
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder, ¾ cup
  • Softened unsalted butter, 1 cup
  • Granulated white sugar, 1¾ cup
  • Eggs, 2
  • Pure vanilla extract, 2 teaspoons
  • Salt, ½ teaspoon
  • Baking powder, 1 teaspoon
Cookies: In a large bowl sift flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder together. Beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, add eggs one at a time, beating continuously. Continue beating, add vanilla extract and flour mix, until you have a smooth dough. This can be done either using an electric beater, or a spatula. Wrap the dough in a plastic wrap and refrigerate for about one hour.
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough and cut out desired shapes using a cookie cutter. Place the cookies in a preheated oven to 350 ºF, until done. Once they are done, cool them on a wire rack. Frost with icing on the cookies, make sure it dries completely before serving or storing. Store in an air tight container to maintain the taste of these yummy cookies.
