Simple Meatloaf Recipes

Meatloaf is a delicious dish that is prepared as a quick meal in many homes. Here are some recipes on how to prepare this dish at home.

Meatloaf is a simple meat dish, which contains seasoned ground meat, which is baked in the shape of a loaf. Cereal and grains are also added to the ground meat to enhance its consistency. During the Great Depression, people started adding cereal and grains to the meatloaf in order to stretch the meat. Usually a meatloaf is served warm as a part of the main course and accompanied with baked potatoes and vegetables.

Soy Garlic Meatloaf
This recipe transforms the humble meatloaf into an oriental delight with some soy sauce, fresh garlic, Szechuan peppercorns, and shallots. It is perfect for a regular meal as well as a lavish dinner party.

Ingredients
  • 1½ lb ground beef
  • 3-4 tablespoons, tomato puree
  • 1 tablespoon, soy sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon, szechuan peppers
  • ½ teaspoon, sea salt
  • ¼ teaspoon, garlic paste
  • ½ cup, shallots (chopped)
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup, dry quick oats
  • 1 onion (chopped)
Preparation
  • Preheat the oven to 350 °F.
  • In order to enhance flavors, it is always better to roast the pepper and salt in a shallow pan, and then grind it.
  • Mix the ground beef with all the spices and herbs.
  • Add the oats to the mixture and mix well until you get a semi-solid consistency.
  • Put the mixture in an ungreased loaf pan.
  • Put the loaf pan in the oven and cook for about an hour.
  • Remove the pan from oven and check if the meat is cooked.
  • Now, pour the soy sauce and chopped shallots on the loaf. Put the meatloaf back in the oven.
  • Bake again for about 10-15 minutes to let the meat soak the flavor of the soy sauce.
  • Let it cool and remove it from the pan. Serve hot.
Traditional Mustard Meatloaf
If you like your humble traditional meatloaf, then this is the recipe for you. With wholesome quantity of mustard, a hint of brown sugar, and tangy tomato ketchup, this recipe is the perfect combination of all the ingredients blended together.

Ingredients
  • 1½ lb ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 1 cup, milk
  • 1 cup, bread crumbs
  • 2 tablespoons, brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons, mustard
  • ½ cup, tomato ketchup
  • Salt
  • Pepper
Preparation
  • Preheat your oven to 350 °F.
  • Mix the ground beef, egg, onion, milk, and bread crumbs. Mix the ingredients well.
  • Add salt and pepper according to taste and again mix it well.
  • Put the mixture in a lightly greased loaf pan.
  • Take a mixing bowl and add the mustard with brown sugar and ketchup to it.
  • Mix the mustard and ketchup well and pour over the meatloaf before baking.
  • Bake it at 350 °F for about an hour.
  • Remember that it tastes best when served hot.
