So you are ready to make yourself a nice salad as an effort to keep up with this year's resolution, but what about the dressing? Most of us know what vegetables and meats to include, but how many of us know about salad dressings and how to make one? Enlisted below are some interesting recipes.
You Will Need:
  • Olive Oil, 6 tbsp.
  • White Wine Vinegar, 2 tbsp.
  • Parsley, 1 tbsp. (fresh and chopped)
  • Lemon Juice, 1 tbsp. (freshly squeezed)
  • Garlic Cloves, 2 (crushed)
  • Basil, 1 tsp. (dry and crumbled)
  • Red Pepper, ¼ tsp. (dried and crushed)
  • Dry Oregano, 1 pinch
In a bowl, add all these ingredients and whisk well. You can add salt and pepper as per your taste. This makes about ½ cup of dressing.
Balsamic Vinaigrette
You Will Need:
  • Balsamic Vinegar, ½ cup
  • Dijon Mustard or English Mustard, 3 tbsp.
  • Honey, 3 tbsp.
  • Garlic Cloves, 2 (crushed)
  • Shallots, 2 (minced)
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil, 1 cup
  • Salt and Pepper, as per taste.
In a bowl, whisk together all the ingredients except the olive oil. Add the olive oil slowly towards the end. This makes 1⅔ cups of dressing.
You Will Need:
  • Garlic Cloves, 4 (crushed)
  • Lemon Juice, ¼ cup (freshly squeezed)
  • Salt, ¼ tsp.
  • Pepper, ⅛ tsp. (ground)
  • Worcestershire Sauce, 2 tbsp.
  • Tabasco Sauce, ¼ tsp.
  • Parmesan Cheese, ¼ cup (grated)
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil, 1 cup
In a blender add garlic, lemon juice, salt, pepper, Tabasco, Worcestershire sauce, and cheese. Blend until you get a thick and smooth paste. Gradually add the olive oil till the dressing becomes creamy. This makes 1 cup of dressing.
You Will Need:
  • Granulated Sugar, ½ cup
  • Coarse Salt, 1 tsp.
  • Vegetable Oil, 1 cup
  • Worcestershire Sauce, 1 tbsp.
  • Onion, 1 tsp. (freshly minced)
  • Garlic Clove, 1 (crushed)
  • Paprika, 1 tsp.
  • White Distilled Vinegar, ⅓ cup
  • Lemon Juice, 2 tbsp. (freshly squeezed)
  • Tomato Ketchup, ½ cup
Add all the ingredients in a blender and blend well for a minute. Put the mixture in the fridge for storing. This recipe makes for 2¾ cups of dressing.
Honey Mustard
You Will Need:
  • Mayonnaise, ¾ cup
  • Honey, 3 tbsp.
  • Dijon Mustard, 3 tbsp.
  • Lemon Juice, 1 tbsp.
  • Salt and Pepper, as per taste.
In a bowl, add all the ingredients and whisk till they blend properly. This makes for 1¼ cup of dressing.
Thousand Island (Low-fat)
You Will Need:
  • Mayonnaise, ⅓ cup (low fat)
  • Ketchup, 2 tbsp.
  • Lemon Juice, 2 tbsp. (freshly squeezed)
  • Bell Pepper, 2 tbsp. (minced)
  • Onion, 1 tbsp. (minced)
  • Parsley, 1 tbsp. (fresh and minced)
  • Sweet Pickled Relish or Gherkins, 1 tbsp.
  • Cayenne Pepper, 1 pinch.
  • Water, ¼ cup
  • Salt and Pepper, as per taste.
Mix all the ingredients in a blender till they become smooth. Add water according to the consistency you desire. This makes 1 cup of dressing.
