Tomato puree, salt, pepper and oil are some of the basic ingredients of tomato sauce. Sometimes, onions, garlic, oregano and wine, are also added while preparing tomato sauce recipe. Many of us buy ready-made tomato sauce, instead of preparing it at home.
Tomato sauce available in the market contain lots of artificial coloring and preservatives, and the quality of its taste is not good as compared to homemade sauce. So, if you are going to make tomato sauce at home, then here are some recipes for you.
Homemade Tomato Sauce Recipes
Garlic Tomato Sauce
  • Olive oil - ¼ cup
  • Tomatoes (chopped) - 6
  • Onions (minced) - 3
  • Green bell peppers (minced) - 2
  • Garlic cloves (minced) - 4
  • White wine - 3 tablespoons
  • Salt and pepper to taste
To prepare this tomato sauce for pasta, take a large saucepan and pour olive oil in it. Then heat the oil over medium heat and add green bell peppers, chopped onions and minced garlic to it. Add white wine, salt and pepper as required. Mix all the ingredients properly and cover the saucepan. Let the mixture simmer for about 30 minutes, and your delicious tomato pasta sauce is ready.
Chickpea Tomato Sauce
  • Dried oregano - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic cloves (peeled and minced) - 2
  • Dry white wine - ½ cup
  • Olive oil - 1 and ½ tablespoons
  • Onion (chopped) - 1
  • Diced tomatoes (drained) - 1 (14.5 ounce) can
  • Feta cheese (crumbled) - ¾ cup
  • Salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • Chickpeas (garbanzo beans, drained) - 1 (15 ounce) can
Pour olive oil in a medium skillet and place it over medium heat. Then add chopped onions, dried oregano and minced garlic cloves to it. Cook the mixture for about 10 minutes, until the onions become tender. After that, put in the chopped tomatoes into the mixture and cook the mixture until all the ingredients get mixed properly. Pour the dry white wine to this tomato mixture and cook it for about 15 minutes to attain a thick texture. Then, add feta cheese and garbanzo beans into the sauce and cook it until the cheese melts. Finally, add salt and pepper according to your taste and remove the skillet from heat.
Basil Tomato Sauce
  • Extra virgin olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Diced onion - 1 cup
  • Garlic cloves (chopped) - 4
  • Crushed tomatoes - 1 (28 ounce) can
  • Crushed red pepper flakes - 2 teaspoons
  • Italian seasoning - 2 teaspoons
  • Salt to taste
This is an easy-to-prepare tomato sauce that requires only 10 minutes. First, heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and saute onion in the oil until they become tender. Then add the chopped garlic and stir the mixture for 2 to 3 minutes. Combine, red pepper flakes, Italian seasoning and chopped tomatoes to this mixture and then in the end, add the salt. Cook the mixture properly to attain the required thickness.
