Tilapia is a mild-flavored, freshwater fish, and it is also called as Hawaiian sunfish. The meat of this farm-raised fish is very tender, and has a delicious taste. It is one of the major components of aquaculture, after salmons and carps. There are various ways of cooking it, among which the grilled recipes are the most popular. Once you learn the technique of seasoning and handling the delicate meat, making these recipes becomes very easy. Given below are some grilled Tilapia recipes that you can try at home.
Grilled Fish with Mango Salsa
  • Tilapia fillets - 2
  • Ripe mango (peeled, diced, and pitted) - 1
  • Red onion (minced) - 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic (minced) - 1 clove
  • Extra virgin olive oil - ⅓ cup
  • Fresh parsley (minced) - 1 tablespoon
  • Lemon Juice - 2 tablespoons
  • Lime juice - 2 tablespoons
  • Dried basil - 1 teaspoon
  • Ground black pepper - 1 teaspoon
  • Red bell pepper (diced) - ½
  • Jalapeño pepper (seeded and minced) - 1
  • Fresh cilantro (chopped) - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt to taste
Take a large salad bowl and put the minced garlic, ground black pepper, and ½ a teaspoon of salt in it. Add the fish fillets to it, and coat them well with this mixture. Then, put the fillets and the remaining mixture inside a plastic bag and seal it well. Place this bag in the refrigerator for about an hour. To prepare the mango salsa, take a bowl and combine the mango, red onion, red bell pepper, jalapeño pepper, and cilantro in it. Add 1 tablespoon each of lemon juice and lime juice to it, and toss it well. Add the salt and pepper to it, and leave it in the refrigerator till you grill the fish.
Next, lightly oil the grates of your grill with a brush, and preheat it on a medium to high heat. Take the marinated fillets out of the plastic bag, and shake off the excess marinade before placing them on the grill. Grill them until their centers lose the original translucency. It will take approximately 3 to 4 minutes per side. Now, take a serving dish and serve these grilled fillets with the mango salsa on top. While grilling, do not turn the fish over too many times, as the meat is delicate and tends to break.
Fish Tacos with Cream
  • Tilapia fish (1-inch stripes) - 2 lbs
  • Red cabbage (shredded) - 1½ cups
  • Large tomatoes (chopped) - 2
  • Mayonnaise - ¼ cup
  • Mexican cream - ¼ cup
  • Lime wedges - 12
  • Corn tortillas - 12
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Hot sauce or salsa
First, lightly grease the grill grates with a bit of olive oil. Then, season the fish fillets with pepper and salt, and place them over a medium flame. Grill them for 2 to 3 minutes, on each side, or until thoroughly cooked. In the meantime, warm a few tortillas with water, and place them on the grill. Cook them well, on both sides. Next, take a bowl and put the Mexican cream, mayonnaise, and sauce in it. You can also use sour cream instead of the Mexican cream. Mix it well, and set it aside. Now, place some strips of the fish inside each tortilla. Top them up with cabbage, tomato, and hot sauce, and serve with lime wedges and salsa.
Pan Grilled Fish with Avocado Salsa
  • Tilapia fillet
  • Avocado (cut into cubes) - ½
  • Grape tomatoes (sliced in half) - 6 to 8
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Lemon juice of half a lemon
  • Red onion (finely chopped) - ¼
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
In a plate, marinade the fish fillets with olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Now, brush the grill pan with oil, preheat it over a medium heat, and place the fillets on it. It will take 2 minutes to grill each side. Until then, take a small bowl and combine the tomato, onion, avocado, a little bit of olive oil, salt, and freshly ground pepper together, and mix them well. Serve the fillets immediately, with this avocado salsa on top. Always pay close attention while grilling this fish, as it can get burned quite easily.
Grilling is the best way of having tilapia, or any other fish preparation. You can easily manage the calories, as they are not more than 100, and can be reduced further using healthy marinades and sauces.
