Flat bread is delicious, very simple to make, and requires less time for preparation. Here are some flat bread recipes that you can serve independently or with other spicy dishes.
Flat bread is a fast cooking and a delicious food. Contrary to common bread, most flat breads are prepared without using yeast or any other leavening agents. You can make plain flat bread with easily available ingredients such as flour, salt, and water.
You can use curry powder, chili powder, pepper, and other spices to add different flavors. Following are some easy-to-cook flat bread recipes that you can prepare within no time.

Finnish Flat Bread

Ingredients
  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup wheat flour
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ¼ cup shortening
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
Procedure
In a large bowl, combine the following ingredients together―all-purpose flour, wheat flour, shortening, sugar, salt, baking soda, and powder. Mix them well and pour the buttermilk into the mixture. Prepare a smooth dough using your hands. After this, cut the dough into six pieces; roll out each piece into a uniformly thick circle (about 7-8 inches).
For easy cooking, you can prick the surface of the dough by using a fork. Preheat some oil on a griddle and cook the dough pieces over medium flame. Make sure to turn them frequently by using a spatula. Transfer the cooked flat bread in a platter and serve hot.

Onion Flat Bread Pizza

Ingredients
  • 1 hard flat bread (14 inch diameter)
  • 1½ cups kalamata olives (pitted)
  • 1½ cup mushrooms (sliced)
  • 1 sweet onion (finely chopped)
  • 8 ounces swiss cheese (shredded)
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Salt and pepper as per taste
Procedure
In a skillet, sauté the chopped onion over medium heat until it turns light brown. Stir in the sliced mushrooms, salt, and pepper, and cook for about 10 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat the broiler oven. Cut the olives and cheese into small pieces.
Place the flat bread on a baking sheet and brush the surface lightly with olive oil. Add the toppings evenly on the flat bread; sprinkle cheese pieces at the end. Then, bake the flat bread till the cheese melts completely. Remove the baked flat bread from the oven and garnish it with the basil leaves before you serve.

Fried Flat Bread

Ingredients
  • 1 pound all-purpose flour
  • 9 ounces milk
  • 2 ounces butter
  • 1 teaspoon powdered yeast
  • Vegetable oil
  • Salt as per taste
Procedure
First of all, combine the flour, yeast, salt, and butter together in a mixing bowl. Gradually add the lukewarm milk and knead well for about 10-15 minutes to prepare a smooth dough. Cut the dough into pieces, roll out, and fold it in squares. Then, roll out the folded square dough and fold again.
You can repeat the procedure for 3-4 times for better puffing. Make the final rolled out dough to a thickness of ¼ inch, and cut it into specific shapes as per your choice. Then, heat some vegetable oil in a frying pan, and fry the dough pieces until they turn golden brown on both the sides. Transfer the fried flat bread to a plate, and serve warm.
You can serve plain flat bread with fried vegetable dishes or other spicy food recipes. These breads can also be consumed in breakfast or as snacks with milk.
