Dutch apple pie is popularly named as, appeltaart or appelgebak. This recipe originated in Netherlands, but now it is a delicacy served all over the world. Dutch apple pie is known for its distinctive use of flavors, such as cinnamon and lemon juice. Usually, it is decorated in grill style, the main ingredients being sugar and apples. The base of Dutch apple pie is a crust on the bottom and around the edges; the filling is of apple pieces or slices. Mostly, cinnamon and sugar are mixed with the apple filling, and lemon juice is often added. On top of the filling, strings of dough are used to cover the pie in the form of grill, keeping the filling visible. You can eat the Dutch apple pie when it is cold, but usually people prefer it warm. It is served with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Dutch Apple Pie - Recipe 1
Dutch apple pie
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup quick-cooking oats
1 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup melted butter

For Filling

3 cups peeled, cored and diced apples
1 ¼ cups water
2/3 cup sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
In a pan, mix flour, oats, brown sugar and butter; keep aside 1 cup of this mixture for topping. Place the remaining mixture into an ungreased 9 inch pie plate and set aside. In a pan, blend cornstarch, sugar, and water to a smooth mixture, and bring it to boil until it is thickened. Remove from the heat, add apples and vanilla and stir well. Now, pour this mixture into crust; top with reserved crumb mixture. Bake at 350ºF, for 40 - 45 minutes until crust is golden brown.

7 ½ large apples peeled, and sliced
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2/4 cup white sugar
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon powder
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2/3 cup all-purpose flour
2/4 cup butter
1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch single crust pie
Preheat oven to 425ºF. Blend 1/2 cup sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, and cinnamon powder. Pour this mixture over apples in crust. Sprinkle lemon juice on top. Mix 1/2 cup flour, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup butter and top with the mixture. Place two 15 inch pieces of parchment paper and wrap the pie; fold edges up 3 times. Place it on the baking sheet. Keep the parchment covered while baking. Bake for 1 hour in a preheated oven. Remove from the oven, open the parchment and let the pie cool. Serve warm.
Amish Dutch Apple Pie - Recipe 3
Amish dutch apple pie
For Filling

3 tablespoons flour
4 cups of peeled and sliced apples
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 beaten egg
1/2 tablespoon cinnamon
1 cup half and half of light cream
1 tablespoon vanilla

For Topping

1/3 cup of sugar
1/3 cup flour
3/4 tablespoon cinnamon
1/4 tablespoon nutmeg
1/4 cup butter
a pinch salt
For Filling

Place a layer of sliced apples in a 9 inch pie pan. Mix the filling ingredients such as flour, sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, beaten egg and stir well. Then add vanilla and mix well. Pour this mixture over apples in the pie pan; cover the pan loosely with foil and bake at 350ºF for 60 minutes.

For Topping

Prepare a coarse mixture by combining sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and butter. Now, pour this mixture over pie and bake uncovered for 25 minutes. Cool and refrigerate it.
