Ground Beef Cabbage Rolls

Ingredients
  • Lean ground beef - 1 pound
  • Ground sausage - 1 pound
  • Onion (finely chopped) - 1
  • Uncooked white rice - ¾ cup
  • Water - 1 cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Ground black pepper and salt
  • Large head cabbage - 1
  • Sauerkraut - 1 (32 ounce) jar
Procedure

To prepare these, take a large bowl and add sausage, chopped onion, water, rice, pepper and ground beef, and combine these ingredients together. Now, in a large pot pour water and bring it to boil. Remove 12 to 15 leaves from the large cabbage head and place them in boiling water. Boil the leaves until they become soft, for about 2 to 3 minutes. Then, remove the leaves from the water and keep them aside. Now, take the meat mixture and stuff small amount of it on each cabbage leaf. Fold the sides of the leaves and roll them up from the bottom. Secure the cabbage rolls with help of toothpick.

Take sauerkraut and place a layer of it at the bottom of a large pot. Place the cabbage rolls on the sauerkraut to form a single layer. Cover them with the remaining sauerkraut and pour water to cover the cabbage rolls. Bring the water to a boil over low heat and simmer the cabbage rolls for 90 minutes. Serve with sauce or salsa.

Baked Cabbage Rolls

Ingredients
  • Cabbage leaves - 10
  • Uncooked white rice - 1 cup
  • Water - 2 cups
  • Lean ground beef - 1 pound
  • Dry bread crumbs - 1 cup
  • Ground cinnamon - 1 pinch
  • Whole peeled tomatoes (chopped) - 1 (28 ounce) can
  • Onion (diced) - 1
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
Procedure

First preheat the oven to 300 degree Fahrenheit. Then, take a large pot, pour water in it and bring it to a boil. Dip the cabbage leaves in the water and cook them for about 2 minutes. Once the cabbage leaves become soft, drain the excess water and set them aside. Take a small saucepan and combine water and rice in it. Bring the water to boil, reduce the heat and simmer the mixture for about 20 minutes. Once the rice is cooked, remove the saucepan from heat and set it aside. Then, take another large bowl and mix beef, cinnamon, chopped tomatoes, bread crumbs, diced onion and salt. Stir the mixture and cook it properly so that all the ingredients are combined.

Take the cabbage leaves and spoon the beef mixture at the center of each cabbage leaf. Then, spoon the rice over the beef mixture and roll up the free edges of the cabbage leaves. Secure the cabbage rolls with the help of toothpick and then wrap them in aluminum foil. Now, take a shallow baking dish and place the cabbage roll in it. Place the pan in preheated oven and bake the stuffed cabbage rolls for 40 minutes.
