Most of us enjoy salads only because of the delicious dressings that accentuates its taste. Dressings are very versatile and can be used with salads as well as dips for different types of snacks. One of the classic American salad dressing is the blue cheese dressing. It is primarily made up of mayonnaise, sour cream, and blue cheese. It is most commonly served with salads and buffalo wings. Most restaurants produce this variety of dressing, but many people prefer to make it at home. Let us look at some recipes on how to prepare it by yourself.
Basic Blue Cheese Dressing
  • ¾ cup, olive oil
  • ¼ cup, apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup, oregano or parsley (finely chopped)
  • 3 teaspoons, Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons, hot pepper sauce
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • ⅓ cup, roughly crumbled blue cheese

In a glass bowl combine the olive oil, apple cider vinegar, oregano, hot pepper sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well and refrigerate for at least 4-6 hours. Before serving, add the blue cheese to the dressing and mix well.
Buttermilk Blue Cheese Dressing with Cherry Tomatoes
  • ½ cup, crumbled blue cheese
  • ½ cup, buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons, extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons, fresh lemon juice
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 bunch, freshly minced chives
  • 2 pints, yellow cherry tomatoes/red grape tomatoes

To prepare the dressing, place the blue cheese, buttermilk, and olive oil in a medium-sized bowl and combine them with a fork to break the cheese. Add the lemon juice, salt, pepper, and chives to it; set it aside. Cut each tomato lengthwise into half-inch slices and season them with a pinch of salt. Add the tomatoes to the dressing mixture and toss well. Add a pinch of freshly ground pepper. Serve chilled.
Low-Fat Blue Cheese Dressing
  • 1 cup, sour cream (fat-free)
  • 1 cup, buttermilk (low-fat)
  • ½ cup, blue cheese (crumbled)
  • 1 teaspoon, minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon, salt

Add all ingredients in a glass bowl. Stir well with a fork or blend for one minute in a blender. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours so that all the flavors blend. Serve chilled.
Vegan Blue Cheese Dressing
  • ¼ block, tofu (extra-firm/firm)
  • 1 pinch, garlic powder
  • 1 cup, vegan mayonnaise
  • ¼ teaspoon, Tahini paste
  • 1 teaspoon, lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon, apple cider vinegar

Take a glass bowl and mix all ingredients except the tofu. Keep mixing until it has a nice, smooth consistency. Crumble the tofu, and add it to your dressing mixture before serving.
