Most us crave for those yummy homemade biscuits that we relished during our childhood. Nowadays, we prefer biscuits from supermarkets, rather than baking some at home. Baking biscuits at home is considered a daunting task, and we often find it easier to buy them. However, it is very easy to make biscuits from scratch, if you know the right methods.
Buttermilk Biscuits From Scratch
  • All-purpose flour - 2 cups
  • Cold buttermilk - ¾ cup
  • Chilled, unsalted butter - 7 tbsp.
  • Baking powder - 2 tsp.
  • Baking soda - ¼ tsp.
  • Salt - 1 tsp.
How to Prepare
Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Cut the chilled butter into thin slices, and mix with the dry ingredients. You may use a wire pastry blender for this purpose. Mix the butter and flour mixture, till it transforms to coarse crumbs. The next step is to add buttermilk to the crumbs, and mix them well to form a sticky dough. Knead the dough thoroughly to a ball, and place it on a floured surface. Pat the dough with floured hands into a ½-inch thick base. Use a biscuit cutter of your choice to cut the dough, and place the pieces on a baking sheet. Make sure to leave some space between the pieces for expansion, while baking. Place the baking sheet in the oven, which is preheated to 425°F. Bake the biscuits for around 10 to 12 minutes, or till they turn golden brown. Wait for the biscuits to cool, before serving.
