One of the best thing about cookies is that they are relatively easy to make (of course easier than baking a cake). Baking a batch of tempting cookies will take less than an hour and you can easily enjoy this dessert alone or in company. Out of the myriad cookie recipes, if you are looking for a different recipe, you can try making anise containing cookies. Here are some easy recipes for the same.
While making these cookies, you can use anise extract or ground anise seed. Either of these can be obtained from a supermarket. Following are recipes on Italian cookies and anise chocolate chip cookies.
Italian Anise Cookies
  • 3 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • ¾ cups of unsalted butter (at room temperature)
  • 1-3 tablespoons of milk
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
  • 1 and ½ teaspoons of anise extract
  • 4 teaspoons of baking powder
  • A pinch of salt
Method of Preparation:
  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
  • Mix butter and sugar together and beat until fluffy.
  • Add one egg and whisk. Continue this with all the three eggs.
  • Now sift baking powder and flour in this mixture and add a pinch of salt. Add vanilla and anise extract.
  • In order to make a smooth dough, add little milk and mix the dough simultaneously. You should make a homogeneous mixture.
  • Place a parchment paper on baking sheet.
  • Make balls or cookies with your hands, or spoon them directly on the baking sheet.
  • Keep them in the preheated oven to bake for 10-15 minutes.
  • Check after the prescribed time. Take them out when golden brown.
  • Cool the cookies on a rack. Do not ice immediately.
  • After a couple of hours, decorate with your favorite icing. Your anise containing cookies are ready to serve / eat!
Anise and Chocolate Chip Cookies
  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cups of sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup of chocolate chips
  • ½ cup of unsalted butter (at room temperature)
  • 1 teaspoon of ground anise seed
  • 1 and ½ teaspoons of baking powder
  • A pinch of salt
Method of Preparation:
  • Firstly, you need to preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Mix butter and sugar together and beat until fluffy.
  • Beat eggs in this mixture (one at a time).
  • Now sift the flour and baking powder into this mixture.
  • Add anise seeds, a pinch of salt and blend to form a homogeneous mixture.
  • Finally add the chocolate chips and stir lightly.
  • Place a parchment paper on the baking sheet. Form cookies with hand / spoon and place them on the baking sheet.
  • Transfer the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes.
  • After the prescribed time, check, and take the cookies out when golden brown.
  • Do not ice / decorate immediately. Let them stand for an hour before icing.
  • Once done, decorate with icing sugar / frosting / cream and enjoy your cookies!
Sugar Icing for Anise Cookies
Now once you have learned how to bake anise seed cookies, here is a recipe on cookie decoration using sugar icing.
  • 1 and ½ cups of powdered sugar
  • 1 and ½ tablespoons of unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 and ½ tablespoons of milk
  • 1 and ¼ teaspoons of anise extract
  • Multicolored sprinkles / hundreds and thousands / chocolate buttons
Method of Preparation:
  • Mix the powdered sugar and butter together. Add in anise extract.
  • Add milk spoon to make a homogeneous and soft creamy mixture.
  • Once your cookies are cooled, place them on a tray. Add the sugar icing with a spoon.
  • Sprinkle multicolored sprinkles or hundreds and thousands; or place chocolate buttons on the top.
  • Your anise sugar cookies are ready to serve / eat!
